Syfy renews Van Helsing for a second season

Syfy is giving a second season to Neil LaBute’s supernatural drama Van Helsing. The series stars Kelly Overton as Vanessa “Van” Helsing—get it?—the daughter of the famed monster hunter, who finds herself reawakened into a post-apocalyptic world run by vampires.

Van Helsing is currently halfway into its first season, which sees Vanessa forced to gather allies against the masses of bloodsuckers who took over the world after a volcanic eruption blocked out all that pesky sunlight. LaBute was effusive in his praise for the network, as well as his confidence in Van Helsing’s future, saying, “We have a wonderful and terrifying road ahead planned for Vanessa, her allies and her enemies. I think this is a world and a story that can be sustained for many years.“ He also said he was ready “to spill a lot of blood along the way,” which is just sort of something you have to say when you’re making a vampire show, apparently.

Van Helsing’s second season will be 13 episodes long; meanwhile, the first season airs Friday nights on Syfy.
