Syfy to air first episode of The Magicians after the end of Childhood’s End
Fans of Lev Grossman’s bestselling Magicians trilogy won’t have to wait until next year to get a good look at what Syfy is doing with their beloved fantasy tomes. The network has confirmed excited tweets from Grossman announcing that the first episode of the series adapted from his books will be shown commercial-free directly after the final episode of the miniseries Childhood’s End on December 16 at 10 pm ET.
Syfy, a channel not exactly renowned for its prestige dramas, must be feeling pretty confident in what showrunners John McNamara and Sera Gamble have come up with if they’re happily presenting a full episode to the world more than a month before the show’s official January 25 premiere. The series—which follows a young student (Jason Ralph) who learns that the magic he read about as a child is not only real, but that he is fluent in it—has the potential to lift Syfy into a higher echelon of critical respect if done right.
