SyFy tries to catch shark lightning in a bottle with teaser for Sharknado 2
“It’s happening again,” Ian Ziering ominously warns in this first teaser for SyFy’s Sharknado 2: The Second One, giving what may be his best dramatic performance since that time he and Jennie Garth something something Beverly Hills, 90120 reference. The “it” he’s referring to is, of course, the rare weather phenomenon of sharks being sucked up into the sky by a tornado and then launched at people on land—much like how SyFy hopes the Sharknado hashtag will suck up everyone on Twitter and launch them at other people on Twitter, convincing them to watch Sharknado 2. This plan obviously worked out pretty well for it the last time around, but it remains to be seen if Sharknado 2 will be able to capture the world’s attention as well as the first one inexplicably did.
This teaser also gives us a quick look at Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, who will be appearing as Ziering’s brother-in-law, as well as a returning Tara Reid and a heroic shot of Ziering holding a chainsaw above the heads of some screaming New Yorkers. “Please save us,” they’re probably shouting, “the first movie was a little funny, but this one seems sort of desperate!” People must say crazy stuff when they’re about to be killed by a Sharknado, because that’s obviously not true.
