The grooves on soul singer Syl Johnson's records have tempted many would-be samplers, but Johnson doesn't take kindly to other artists "borrowing" his music without permission. Johnson has lodged copyright infringement suits against Michael Jackson and Cypress Hill, and now he's bringing Jay-Z and Kanye West to court for sampling his 1967 song "Different Strokes" for the bonus Watch The Throne track, "My Joy," without permission. "Different Strokes" has already been sampled many times in hip-hop, by artists such as the Geto Boys, Public Enemy, and Wu-Tang Clan. Check out the songs below. [via Pitchfork]
