T.J. Miller arrested for allegedly calling in a fake bomb threat
TJ Miller’s ongoing fall from comedy grace just reached a new level of bizarre, as Variety reports that the ex-Silicon Valley star was arrested last night at New York’s LaGuardia Airport for calling in a fake bomb threat last month. The United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut says that Miller was arrested on charges of “intentionally conveying to law enforcement false information about an explosive device on a train traveling to Connecticut.” He appeared before a judge this morning, and has been released on a $100,000 bond.
The Hollywood Reporter provides more detail on the circumstances which led to Miller’s arrest, saying he called 911 while aboard an Amtrak train headed from Washington, DC to New York City and said a woman on a different train “ha[d] a bomb in her bag.” That train was stopped and searched by a bomb squad in Connecticut, but no bomb was found. An attendant on the train Miller was actually on tells THR that he “appeared intoxicated upon boarding in Washington, that he consumed multiple drinks on the train, and that he had been removed in New York owing to his intoxication. The attendant also advised that Miller had been involved in hostile exchanges with a woman who was sitting in a different row from him in the first class car.”
This comes after Miller was accused of physical and sexual assault last fall by a woman whom Miller dated in college, and after an investigation by THR discovered that he was let go from Mike Judge’s HBO series for allegedly showing up to work under the influence and displaying “explosive” (pun in no way intended) behavior on set. The fake bomb threat is currently being investigated by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, Connecticut State Police, MTA Police, Amtrak Police, and the Westport Police Department.
