T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, & Adam Pally form a Search Party in NSFW trailer
When presented with a trailer for a film starring T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, and Adam Pally—with appearances from Alison Brie, Jason Mantzoukas, Krysten Ritter, and Raising Hope’s Shannon Woodward—most folks, The A.V. Club included, would be only too eager to press “play.” But as soon as the bong smoke clears in the red band trailer for Search Party, it’s obvious we’re dealing with another men-behaving-badly story of The Hangover variety.
The film stars Middleditch as groom-to-be Nardo, whose wedding is “ruined” when his pal Jason (Miller) interrupts the ceremony to break the news to the bride (Woodward) that Nardo has doubts about marrying her. Nardo changes his mind again and heads south to track her down, but is quickly car- and tuxedo-jacked, leaving him naked and stranded in Mexico. Jason and Evan (Pally) rush to rescue their cocaine-encrusted friend, but not before gambling, hitting on Ritter’s character, hitting on Brie’s character, and evading a black-market organ dealer.
Search Party is the directorial debut of Scot Armstrong, who wrote Road Trip, Old School, and The Hangover Part II. The film had an international release two years ago, but will “finally” (now that everyone’s career is solid enough to take a hit) be available for domestic consumption on May 13.
