Take a quiet journey with Death in Coda
Coda was released last year as an animated short, and creator Alan Holly has made it available on Vimeo. Clocking in at just over nine minutes, the quietly haunting piece took home numerous awards and nominations.
The film from the Dublin-based director opens with an accident reminiscent of shocking European drinking and driving PSAs. From there, the audience follows the detached spirit of the deceased, as does a discretely attentive Death. While the spirit resists being consumed into darkness, Death offers a chance to experience “more” of life. From there, the pair embark on an abstract journey that hops between both the familiar and the strange, the comforting and the unsettling. By the time the story reaches a conclusion, the viewer comes away with an understanding that there is a limit to how much “more” any of us need, and there is peace in finality.
