Take an exclusive look at the Time Bandits-inspired trailer for Art House Theater Day

Saturday, September 24th is Art House Theater Day, a 24-hour event that “celebrates the art house theater and the cultural role it plays in a community.” Among the films that will be playing as part of the event are the J.J. Abrams-sponsored Phantasm: Remastered, as well as a new 2k restoration of Time Bandits. The A.V. Club has been granted an exclusive look at the new Time Bandits-inspired bumper/trailer commissioned by The Texas Theater that will be playing at 195 theaters nationwide throughout the day on September 24.

The clip has all the whimsy and charm of Terry Gilliam’s bonkers 1981 fantasy, the first in his “Trilogy Of Imagination,” while poking a little fun at the preciousness of cinephile culture. Announcing that “the classic you loved as a strange socially awkward child is back”—which, for households with no boundaries, could describe Phantasm as well—the trailer features little people running amok in a movie theater and being chased by the logo for Janus Films, who backed the original release:

Time Bandits was co-written by Gilliam and Monty Python alum Michael Palin. It features music by George Harrison, who also had a hand in producing the film.

The 2k restoration of Time Bandits will be showing at theaters across the U.S. and Canada on September 24. You can find a list of participating theaters here.
