Taraji P. Henson buys out Chicago theater for free Hidden Figures screening this Sunday

Earlier this week, we reported on Hidden Figures star Octavia Spencer buying out a screening of the film in a Los Angeles movie theater, offering free admission to those who otherwise would not have been able to afford tickets. Now her co-star Taraji P. Henson is doing the same thing for low-income families in Chicago.

According to an email sent to The A.V. Club by film marketing company Allied, Henson has personally bought out the 2:00 p.m. screening of Hidden Figures at the AMC Ford City 14 (7601 S. Cicero Ave.) this coming Sunday, January 22. Henson, who grew up in Washington, D.C. and now lives in Chicago, says she wants to be able to share the film with people in her adopted hometown who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to see it. Hard copies of tickets will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis at the theater box office on the day of the screening.

If you live in Chicago and know someone who would benefit from attending the free screening, Allied asks that you spread the word. But please, let’s make sure that these free tickets remain available for those who really need them.
