Tatiana Maslany in talks to play one person in David Gordon Green’s Stronger

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany is “in early negotiations” to join Stronger, the Boston Marathon bombing movie directed by David Gordon Green. Stronger is based on a book of the same name by Jeff Bauman, who was standing at the finish line waiting for his girlfriend when the bombs went off, causing him to lose both of his legs. Jake Gyllenhaal will play Bauman, and Maslany—if she takes the part—will play Erin Hurley, the girlfriend. (Unlike a certain website that reports on Hollywood, we looked up the woman’s name so we could avoid having to say “Maslany will play the girlfriend, the movie’s female lead,” which seems weirdly dismissive.)

THR also notes that Maslany is still being considered for the female lead in Star Wars: Episode VIII (possibly as “the girlfriend”), but the article suggests that she’ll have to back out of that if she takes this role in Stronger. Apparently this is because THR exists in a universe where a person who already has a loyal geek-friendly following would even consider turning down a lead role in Star Wars. If she gets both parts, we imagine she’ll find a way to work it out.
