Taylor Swift going to be awkward, act in the film adaptation of The Giver

Taylor Swift will once again be bringing her awkward overacting to the big screen. Swift has joined the cast of The Giver, the film adaptation of the famed Lois Lowry book about a future without pain and sadness. She’ll reportedly play Rosemary, the last teen mentored by Jeff Bridges’ The Giver before he meets his new mentee, 12-year-old Jonas. Swift previously starred in critical duds The Lorax and Valentine’s Day.

Katie Holmes, Meryl Streep, and Aleksander Skarsgard will be joining Swift and Bridges in the cast. Holmes will play Jonas’ mom, while Streep will be playing the evil Chief Elder. Salt’s Philip Noyce is directing, and the movie should start shooting Oct. 7 in Cape Town, South Africa. It already has an Aug. 15, 2014 opening date.
