Taylor Swift may play Joni Mitchell, finally kill the hippies

As recompense for having to sit through decades of self-satisfied documentaries about the Woodstock generation, the nefarious plan to see aging hippies die choking on their own outrage—recently begun by having Miley Cyrus and Ke$ha sing Bob Dylan songs—will roll on with a biopic about revered, iconoclastic folk singer Joni Mitchell starring Taylor Swift. Variety reports that Swift has been attached to the role of Mitchell for “months” in the upcoming Girls Like Us, a John Sayles-scripted adaptation of Sheila Weller’s book about the careers of Mitchell, Carly Simon, and Carole King. So far, Swift seems to be the only almost-confirmed cast member—though Alison Pill is said to be circling King—with Swift being the clear favorite for the role of Mitchell based on her slight physical resemblance, own prowess with a guitar, and a similar lyrical understanding of romantic relationships and how they’re complicated by cheerleaders and prep school girls who think they’re all that but are so totally not. Also, if you Google “taylor swift joni mitchell” like we just did, you’ll discover there’s an entire Tumblr devoted to Taylor Swift writing Joni Mitchell lyrics on her arm, so she obviously deserves the part over, say, an actual actress. Die, hippies.
