TBS has already ordered another season of American Dad
As reported by Variety, TBS has ordered another season of American Dad—the unfairly neglected child of Family Guy mastermind Seth MacFarlane. TBS picked up the series last year when Fox canceled it, and Variety says it “has been a solid performer” for its new home. This will bring the total number of American Dad seasons up to 12, which is pretty good for a series that got its start as an uninspired Family Guy knockoff. Also, maybe this means TBS should try picking up some more Fox classics that were canceled before their time. No, not Firefly, we’re thinking of something more like Mulaney. Oh, that hasn’t been canceled yet? Never mind then.
Presumably, the next season of American Dad will still be as “edgy” as TBS claims that the currently airing season is, although we’re not really sure how it’s different at all. The new episodes use a cold open, which the Fox episodes never did, but does that count as “edgy”? Saturday Night Live uses a cold open, and it hasn’t been edgy in decades. Besides, Fox let American Dad get away with scenes like this, and we’re not sure how TBS can out-edgy a slow-motion shot of a guy’s head exploding. Luckily, it has the rest of this season and all of next season to try.
