TBS says goodbye to the People Of Earth

Depriving us all of the abduction comedy, murderous board games, and smarmy, Peter Serafinowicz-voiced floating cubes we’ve come to expect from the two-season series, TBS has announced that it’s canceling People Of Earth. This, despite the fact that the network actually handed the series a renewal order last fall, shortly after the end of its second season.

Initially starring Wyatt Cenac—who departed the series halfway through its second year—People Of Earth told the story of a bunch of small-town alien abductees, as well as the bickering crew of extraterrestrials tasked with kidnapping them and keeping them in the dark. It’s not clear yet why the network decided to do an about-face on its decision to bring the show back for a third year, but we can only assume it involves a secret reptilian mind control plot designed to break the spirits of True Believers who also enjoy quietly weird, relationship-driven alien comedy.
