Tea Leoni will join HBO's quest to find the next Sex And The City

HBO’s original programming has become a decidedly masculine affair—which is to say that almost all of its shows, particularly its comedies, are about emotionally stunted man-children. But what of the emotionally stunted women-children? Where, in other words, is the next Sex And The City? As it turns out, HBO has been asking itself that very question, which is why it’s hoping to create the next Sex And The City by, essentially, creating Sex And The City all over again: If Lizzy Caplan playing a single New York gal who sleeps with a bunch of commitment-phobic losers, or the adaptation of Mara Altman’s story about a single New York gal who sleeps with a bunch of commitment-phobic losers in the quest for her first orgasm don’t get it done, then maybe the just-announced Spring/Fall will, casting long-lost TV vet Tea Leoni as a single New York gal who sleeps with a bunch of commitment-phobic losers but also makes fashion. The show—to be produced by The September Issue’s R.J. Cutler, which all but ensures lots of real-life fashion world cameos—will pair Leoni in a “dysfunctional partnership” with a yet-to-be-cast fellow New York gal who has a different approach to their career, as well as, presumably, sleeping with losers.
