Teaser trailer for Steve Jobs reveals the new biopic you’ll have to replace every few years

Danny Boyle and Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs biopic, aptly titled Bill Gates—err, Steve Jobs—has had a lot of bumps in the road on the way to this teaser trailer. First, Christian Bale was set to star, and David Fincher was rumored to direct. Then, Fincher turned down the project and Bale dropped out. Later, Boyle came in to take over directing it, and then Bale came back. A few minutes later, Bale dropped out again, then Leonardo DiCaprio was attached for a bit, then he dropped out, and then some other things happened. Also, it turns out that someone already made a Steve Jobs biopic. That didn’t stop Legendary Pictures, though, and now we have Michael Fassbender starring as Jobs, with Danny Boyle directing from a script by Aaron Sorkin. Whew!

This teaser doesn’t tell us much, but we do get a few quick glimpses of Fassbender as Jobs, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley, and Kate Winslet as former Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman. The teaser also sets up the idea that the movie will be set entirely (as far as we know) backstage at three of Apple’s most important product launches.

Steve Jobs will be in theaters on October 9.
