Ted Danson’s looking forward to pissing off Larry David again

In the roughly 7 years since Curb Your Enthusiasm went off the air, there’s been much sporadic discussion of Larry David bringing everyone—even Ted Danson—back for more cringe-inducing humor. Fans will finally get their wish later this year, when the ninth season is scheduled to arrive. David’s coterie has been just as anxious for the show’s return. In Danson’s case, part of the appeal is the loose structure of filming, as well as the chance to piss off Larry again. As Danson tells Conan O’Brien, that’s the jumping-off point for most episodes, which he’s more than happy to orchestrate once more with the help of Cheryl Hines, JB Smoove, and of course, Mary Steenburgen.

And in case you weren’t thoroughly charmed by Danson’s Curb anecdotes, his Conan appearance also sees him joke that he plays virtually the same character in every show. He’s wrong (and he knows it), but it inadvertently leads to a list of Cheers spin-off ideas that could be cool: “Sam Malone in Fargo,” for example.
