Telltale shares first details of its Game Of Thrones video game
It’s been nearly a year since the announcement of Telltale’s upcoming Game Of Thrones video game tie-in, and the only real news we’d heard in the interim was a recent reassurance that its first episode would be premiering this year. Today, Telltale pulled back the curtain on its new episodic series, if only slightly. The aptly titled Game Of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series will span six episodes. It’s specifically set within the world of the HBO television show (as opposed to George R.R. Martin’s original A Song Of Ice And Fire books), picking up near the end of season three and ending before the events of season five, which premieres next spring. However, its story focuses on House Forrester, a family that was mentioned in the series’ fifth book, A Dance With Dragons, and has yet to appear on the TV show.
According to the Telltale blog post about the game, players will take on the perspective of five different House Forrester members across the continents of Westeros and Essos as they try to keep their house afloat during The War Of The Five Kings. Much like the studio’s acclaimed Walking Dead game, it seems that making choices and facing their usually horrible consequences will take up the bulk of players’ time. In this case, Telltale says, any one decision has the chance to ripple outward and affect the lives of your other characters, but you can also use the multiple viewpoints and political actors to your advantage, pursuing your agenda with not one but five Forresters.
The series’ first episode, titled “Iron From Ice,” still doesn’t have a firm release date. Telltale says it will be available “soon” on iOS, Mac, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
