Teri Hatcher joins Supergirl in mystery villain role
Teri Hatcher, whose breakthrough role was Lois Lane in the mid-’90s TV show Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman, has just signed on to a mystery villain role for season two of The CW’s Supergirl. The role, according to Variety, “will become the season’s Big Bad.”
Andrew Kreisberg, Supergirl’s executive producer, told Variety on behalf of co-creater Greg Berlanti, “No offense to any of the wonderful actresses who have also played the part, but Teri Hatcher is my all time favorite Lois Lane.” Hatcher played the role of Lois Lane for Lois And Clark from 1993 until the show’s somewhat abrupt cancellation in 1997. Hatcher brought renewed ambition to Lois Lane’s character, making her (especially in later seasons) far more than a damsel in distress. The show changed the traditional dynamic between Lane and Clark Kent/Superman, as she figured out in early season three that she knew his secret identity.
Hatcher later played Susan Delfino in ABC’s Desperate Housewives. Dean Cain, who played opposite Hatcher as Clark Kent/Superman, has also appeared in four episodes of Supergirl.
