Terrorism thriller Bastille Day unsurprisingly pulled from French theaters

French production studio and film distributor StudioCanal has requested that French theaters pull its recently released terrorism thriller Bastille Day from their line-ups in the wake of the Thursday night truck ramming that killed 84 people in Nice. The film was released on Wednesday night, before the attack, in order to coincide with the titular national holiday.

This isn’t the first time Bastille Day—which stars Idris Elba and Richard Madden as two men trying to prevent a terrorist attack—has been disrupted by real-world events. Back in November, the attacks on Paris—including the hostage crisis at the Bataclan—caused marketing for the movie to be pulled. (Ads for the film have once again been suspended this week.) Meanwhile, the movie is still scheduled for a July 23 release in the U.S.

This isn’t the only cancellation or postponement related to the July 14 attack. Rihanna canceled a Friday night concert in the city, citing safety concerns. Meanwhile, it’s not clear whether shooting on the Fifty Shades Of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Darker, will be disrupted; the movie is filming 40 minutes from the major French city.
