Teti’s mom on reality TV weddings and Unhung Hero, which is what it sounds like
In Mom On Pop, Bonney Teti—mother of A.V. Club senior editor John Teti—shares her unfiltered thoughts on the pop culture of the day.
It’s August, a perfect time to venture into the wilderness of reality TV and see what the medium’s lunatic fringe has to offer. The FYI network (formerly a 24-hour Murphy Brown rerun channel) has grabbed my attention lately with Married At First Sight, a show that sets three couples up on blind dates, except they get married on the date. It’s crass, it’s weird, and I find it fascinating, so Mom and I talk about why we love to hate it. But first, we delve into Unhung Hero, a documentary that Mom found on Netflix. It’s the tale of a comedian who was dumped by his girlfriend because she thought his member was too small. Look, I don’t know. Mom chose this one.
Mom also shares stories of ice-cream-related emotional trauma, and we talk about the etiquette of playing Facebook games with distant acquaintances.
Mom On Pop is available on iTunes, and there’s a podcast RSS feed if you want to subscribe to the show in other apps. Never miss an episode!
