Teti’s mom reviews 2014’s best and worst butt-related music videos

In the Mom On Pop podcast, Bonney Teti—mother of A.V. Club senior editor John Teti—shares her unfiltered thoughts on the pop culture of the day.

For this edition of the podcast, Mom and I look back at the butt-related music videos of 2014. From Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” which treats bouncing derrieres as just one of many trends that Swift must navigate, to Jennifer Lopez’s “Booty,” which has more butts than brains, we assess the state of the rear end as it closes out one of its biggest years ever. I’ve embedded the videos below.

We also talk about the strange moment last month when Fox told its primetime audience that Mom loves Gotham, so you should love it too. And there’s a new contest! Listen to find out the details.

As promised, here are the music videos that Mom and I reviewed for this episode. First up, Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”:

Nicki Minaj, “Anaconda”:

Jennifer Lopez (feat. Iggy Azalea), “Booty”:

Meghan Trainor, “All About That Bass”:

Basement Jaxx (feat. ETML), “Never Say Never”:

Mastodon, “The Motherload”:

And finally, even though it’s not about butts and was released last year, I included Shugo Tokumaru’s “Katachi” because it’s beautiful, and I love it. Sorry for mangling your name in the podcast, Mr. Tokumaru:

Mom On Pop is available on iTunes, and there’s a podcast RSS feed if you want to subscribe to the show in other apps. Never miss an episode!
