Thanks, Pharrell: Sales of Marvin Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up” are up 246 percent

Everything’s coming up Marvin Gaye lately. The late singer’s estate recently won a $7.3 million judgment against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over supposed copyright infringement in their song “Blurred Lines,” and now the case has caused a marked uptick in sales for “Got To Give It Up,” the song Thicke and Williams ripped off. According to Billboard, “Got To Give It Up” moved about 10,000 downloads last week, a 246 percent increase from what it sold the week before. That put it at No. 18 on the R&B Digital Songs chart, while Gaye’s greatest hits album, Number 1’s, landed at No. 175 on the Billboard 200 with 4,000 copies sold. Two versions of “Got To Give It Up” are also on iTunes’ R&B/Soul chart, with four other Gaye songs scattered in there as well.
