That Absolutely Fabulous movie might be coming pretty soon

Absolutely Fabulous creator Jennifer Saunders has been talking about turning her hit BBC sitcom into a movie for a while now. Still, as the years went by without any news save for the occasional tidbit about how she was seeking professional help to overcome her procrastination, that prospect started to look less realistic. Happily, whatever help she got must have worked, as she recently told British tabloid the Sunday People that she’s finished the first draft for the movie, which she hopes to have completed by the end of 2015. “I’m feeling euphoric,” Saunders said. “My proper New Year’s resolution is to do the film, otherwise it’ll be a pointless year of procrastination.”

The current title for the movie is Edina And Patsy, the names of the aging, hard-partying British boozers played by Saunders and Joanna Lumley. Julia Sawalha is also expected to return as Edina’s sensible, long-suffering daughter Saffron. The last time audiences caught up with the characters was in 2012, when the cast reunited for three episodes to mark the 20th anniversary of the show’s premiere. Absolutely Fabulous had already been revived several times before that, so the movie would only be the latest reiteration for a series that seems destined to return again and again, until the sight of would-be sophisticates desperately trying to cling to their youths stops being funny.
