That Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff might not be dead after all
Befitting a show about super-secret spies, details about that potential Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff are incredibly mysterious at the moment. We initially reported that ABC was planning a spinoff series starring agents Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood). But then Deadline reported that the show was axed due to ABC’s desire to keep the two popular characters on their flagship series. Now, however, it might be back in action. Maybe.
According to Variety, ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee recently explained, “[There] certainly is a possibility of spinning them off,” in a conference call before the network’s upfronts presentation earlier today. This was after he reportedly raved about S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter, so it’s possible he was just riding a Marvel high, as we all do from time to time. Or maybe the spinoff actually is still happening. He added, “We absolutely love those characters on S.H.I.E.L.D.,” although it’s not clear if he’s referring to Mockingbird and Hunter specifically or just the cast in general.
Lee has obviously been trained in the ways of secret agent vagueness, a class all network executives must presumably take. He did confirm, however, that Marvel is still going ahead with that secret project created by American Crime’s John Ridley. “I can’t talk about the John Ridley one, other than to say that he’s working on it,” he added cagily. Agent Coulson would be proud.
