That Bryan Cranston LBJ movie is on at HBO

HBO is the lucky network that will be able to put “Bryan Cranston,” “Steven Spielberg,” and “Tony winner” all on one poster. According to Variety, HBO Films has officially nabbed the rights to that previously rumored adaptation of All The Way, which earned Cranston a Best Actor award and also took home the title of Best Play at this year’s Tony Awards. The drama follows President Lyndon B. Johnson’s first year in office, focusing on the escalation of the Vietnam War and the passing of the Civil Rights Act. Cranston earned rave reviews for his performances as LBJ, winning not just the Tony but also the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and coveted “We Like Breaking Bad” awards.

Playwright Robert Schenkkan will adapt his play for the screen, with Spielberg serving as executive producer (assuming he’s not too busy killing dinosaurs). Previously speculated to be a miniseries, the project is now being called a TV movie. The below ad for the play offers a preview of the performance that will likely earn Cranston a whole new round of Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe nominations.
