That feud between Guided By Voices' ex-drummer and Robert Pollard has gotten really nasty
Guided By Voices drummer Kevin Fennell may not have succeeded in selling his drum kit on eBay for $55,000, but he has succeeded in airing the band’s dirty laundry. In a post on the auction’s Facebook page, a friend of Fennell (read: probably Fennell) posted an email correspondence between Fennell and GBV frontman Robert Pollard. In the back-and-forth, Fennell claims he resigned from the band, while Pollard insists he was fired. The email also sheds a little light on Fennell’s beef with the band, which he claims stems from the band’s recent lack of live activity and subsequent income.
Ever the spry one, Pollard doesn’t let Fennell’s accusations lie, responding that the drummer has “made a fool of [himself] by [his] asking price,” and saying that Fennell shouldn’t “delude” himself “that people gave a shit who was behind that drum kit.” He goes on to note that he owns the name Guided By Voices, and that Fennell should have reasonably asked for permission to use the moniker in the auction. Still, “most people would like to know who the fuck you think you are and who you think Guided By Voices is that you can warrant that kind of asking price for your fucking drums.”
