That long-promised Sense8 conclusion has finally arrived

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Sense8 (Netflix): In a heartening case of effective public outcry by TV fans, the cancelled Netflix sci-fi series returns for a special two-hour wrap-up after a flurry of protests and petitions. As Sam Barsanti reported about a year ago, “Sense8 co-creator Lana Wachowski released a statement of her own on Twitter, pointing out that the petitions and pleas for more Sense8 actually made a difference and that the extent to which the ‘collective voice’ of the fans ‘rose up like the fist of Sun to fight for this show was beyond what anyone was expecting.’” A year later, that promised closure has now arrived; Rowan Kaiser also returns to discover what the end of the series has in store for the Sensates.

Wild card

The Staircase (Netflix): In December 2001, novelist Michael Peterson was charged with murdering his wife, Kathleen, who was found dead at the bottom of a staircase. He was convicted in 2003, and stayed in prison until a new trial opened up his case last year. In her A- review of the 13-part Netflix series that explores the case, Katie Rife says, “for a documentarian, the Peterson trial is a rare gift. It’s a truly ambiguous case, with a trial full of dramatic twists that keep things interesting up to, and even after, the verdict itself.” Sounds like a series that fans of true-crime mysteries like Serial and Making A Murderer will have to check out.
