That Tina Fey-Amy Poehler movie is now just called Sisters

The upcoming Tina Fey-Amy Poehler comedy once known as The Nest will now be known by the even more generic—and far more common—title of Sisters, according to Variety. Sisters will still feature Fey and Poehler as siblings conspiring to throw one last raging party in their childhood home before their parents sell it out from under them. And Ike Barinholtz, James Brolin, Maya Rudolph, John Leguizamo, and John Cena remain on the guest list for the blowout. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is still attached to direct, and the comedy is still on track for its previously announced December 2015 release date.

Universal didn’t reveal the rationale behind the new, watered-down title, but we have a few baseless theories:

• The Nest was too confusing. The studio bigwigs feared audiences would see the trailer and say, “So wait a second…are they supposed to be sisters? Or is the blonde the best friend or something? I get that not every child born into one family has the same hair color, but… I just don’t understand what’s happening here. I’d feel more comfortable if the nature of this relationship was made more clear.”
• The Fey and Poehler characters are now doing it for themselves. In an early draft of Paula Pell’s screenplay, the siblings hire a high-strung, gay party planner to arrange the event, running afoul of him when they mock his nondescript European accent. In the newly rewritten version, the sisters plan their own party in a montage set to Eurythmics.
• The title conflicted with another project. Universal has another movie in the pipeline called The Nest, in which a solar flare disrupts bird migration patterns, causing thousands of birds to take up residence in a gorgeous, six-bedroom Tudor style that just became home to Katee Sackhoff and her five children. It was pitched as “The Birds as a home-invasion thriller.”
