That's not thunder, that's just Sunn 0))) preparing two new albums
It’s been four years since Sunn O))) reminded us what a collapsing civilization sounds like, but, per The Quietus, more spine-rattling drones are on the way. In April, the metal titans will unleash Life Metal, their first new album since 2015's Kannon, which we called a “cruel masterpiece.” If that weren’t enough, the band will return this autumn with another LP, Pyroclasts, which is described as “more meditative.”
Both albums were made in collaboration with journeyman producer Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. “Sure, this will be fun. I have no idea what is going to happen,” Albini reportedly told the band.
The press release continues, “An all analogue technique was used, they recorded and mixed on tape, providing a creative gateway for Sunn O))) to evolve their production methods into stronger, confident, performance based and a more logical executive process.”
Other collaborators include film composers Hildur Guðnadóttir and Anthony Pateras, as well as Silkworm’s Tim Midytett. Catch them live in Europe and North America this spring.
