The 2016 election is getting the Game Change treatment

Back in 2012, HBO and director Jay Roach offered up a four-years-later post-mortem on the 2008 presidential election—and specifically the effects that dark horse vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin wrecked upon it—in the form of the TV movie Game Change. The film was based on the book of the same name by journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, who’ve since written a sequel about the 2012 race, and are currently hard at work on a third book documenting Donald Trump’s presidential upset last year.

Now, HBO has announced that Heilemann and Halperin’s latest will serve as the basis for a new Game Change film, with Roach returning to direct the chronicle of the time a glorified Twitter troll beat out a dedicated stateswoman to become the most powerful man on Earth. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzmann will produce through their Playtone shingle. HBO has yet to announce a name for the project, but we’re kind of partial to Game Changed: We Can’t Change It Back, Oh God, I Think We’re Fucked.
