The 2018 Cinepocalypse film fest unveils its lineup of unholy celluloid mayhem

Fans of absurd amounts of gore, gratuitous nudity, nerve-shredding horror, and gonzo action, take heart: Your film festival of choice is here again. The Cinepocalypse film festival has released its 2018 lineup, and there’s a little something for everyone, especially if your brand of something involves mayhem. The A.V. Club went last year and had a blast.

Again taking place in Chicago’s historic Music Box Theater, the festival will run June 21-28, with a bevy of world premieres, anniversary screenings, special guests, and more. The co-presidents of this year’s feature film jury will be Doctor Strange’s director Scott Derrickson and screenwriter C. Robert Cargill. Some of the noteworthy events include a special screening of Bound hosted by iconic writer-director Lana Wachowski; the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Ernest Dickerson, longtime director and DP for auteurs like Spike Lee and John Sayles, who will host special screenings of his films Juice and Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight; the 25th anniversary screening of Chicago-shot thriller Judgment Night, hosted by director Stephen Hopkins; a guest appearance from Jonah Ray for a live screening of the podcast ‘80s All Over; and more.

The films themselves are an eclectic batch, spanning from the opening-night action-thriller spectacle The Domestics to clownsploitation creeper Gags to the documentary The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons From A Mythical Man. You can check out the complete lineup at the Music Box’s website, where passes are now on sale. The full schedule of showtimes (with the chance to purchase individual tickets to each movie) will go up Wednesday, May 23 at noon.
