The Affair hits the road

The Affair hits the road

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, August 5. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

The Affair (Showtime, 9 p.m.): This fourth season of The Affair kicked off with a mysterious disappearance, and the unlikely trio of Noah (Dominic West), Cole (Joshua Jackson), and a young man we now know is Anton, Noah’s high school student (Christopher Meyer). After seven episodes, we’ll finally see this road trip in earnest, as this on-the-road band searches for Alison, who hasn’t been seen (onscreen) since her collapse on Helen’s couch a few weeks ago. Good luck, fellas! Here’s Showtime’s episode summary: “A hopeful epiphany leads Cole on a journey to a horrific discovery. Noah questions his role in tragic events.” Yikes, that sounds like this journey may not have the happy destination we were hoping for. Gwen Ihnat has packed snacks for the road trip regardless.

Regular coverage

Sharp Objects (HBO, 9 p.m.)
Who Is America? (Showtime, 10 p.m.)
Preacher (AMC, 10 p.m.)

Wild card

Chesapeake Shores (Hallmark Channel, 9 p.m.): The Hallmark hits returns for season three tonight, in case you were hoping for some less traumatic family drama with the giant O’Brien clan and their seaside hometown. As Hallmark puts it, “The O’Briens are a family that must face life’s challenges, but always finds hope in their enduring love toward one another as they navigate life, love, career and romance.” So many things to navigate! From the trailer, it looks like Trace (Jesse Metcalfe) returns to Abby (Meghan Ory) after his big tour. No surprise there. Brothers Mick (Treat Williams) and Thomas (Gregory Harrison) are likely still at war. And it will all play out against an incredibly picturesque backdrop, for a relaxing way to spend your Sunday night.
