Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is releasing a soundtrack, according to DigitalSpy. Music from the show’s first season was released digitally earlier this week, while a physical CD is set to hit stores on October 9, because if there’s one group still interested in purchasing CDs, it’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans.
S.H.I.E.L.D.’s music was written by prolific TV composer Bear McCreary, who is the go-to guy for genre shows. He’s scored the likes of Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, and Outlander, but he calls S.H.I.E.L.D.’s first season “the most ambitious season of television” he’s ever worked on. He adds:
The sheer scope of this project was daunting: to score 22 episodes in 22 unique orchestral sessions, with orchestras ranging from 55 to 95 players, at the best sound stages in Los Angeles, with each episode requiring minimally 30 minutes of score!
McCreary shows off that elaborate process—and his sense of humor—over on his YouTube page, where he uploads tons of behind-the-scenes stuff about what it’s like to be a TV composer:
In his statement about the S.H.I.E.L.D. soundtrack, McCreary explains he’s always “adored” superhero music and adds, “Collaborating with Marvel, Joss Whedon and his creative team is truly a dream come true. Together, we craft a score each week that I hope measures up to the insanely high standards of Marvel fans around the world.”
