The Amazing Race is casting social media stars for this season’s race
Stretching the definition of the word “amazing” to its ultimate limits, CBS has announced that this season’s Amazing Race cast will be made up entirely of social media stars. This latest race—the 28th since the show went on the air back in 2001, before thoughts of adorable, keyboard-wielding cats were even a glimmer in a nascent Vine maker’s eye—will feature an assortment of “Instagram models,” “YouTube sensations,” and, of course, “pro Frisbee players,” all racing for cash around the globe.
Apparently taking a hint from its like-savvy cast, the show will also be pushing itself into the social media world, with host Phil Koeghan streaming video from the race’s first location on his Facebook page on November 15. (The event should be a big boon for any of Koeghan’s annoying distant relatives, looking for a bigger audience to try their anti-Obama material out on by posting stuff on his wall.)
Anyway, here’s the cast list for this year’s show, presented in the grim, weary certainty that someone, somewhere, will find this grouping of names incredibly exciting:
Social media influencers Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl
YouTube stars Burnie Burns and Ashley Jenkins
YouTube hosts Erin White Robinson and Joslyn Davis
Vine star Cole LaBrant and mom Sheri LaBrant
Viner Zach King and wife Rachel King
YouTube sensations Dana Borriello and Matt Steffanina
Instagram models Jessica Versteeg and Brittany Oldehoff
Viral video sensation Marty Cobb and daughter Hagan Parkman
Beauty YouTuber Blair Fowler and dad Scott Fowler
Vine aficionados Cameron Benson and Darius Benson
Pro frisbee players Kurt Gibson and Brodie Smith
