Rebecca Stead took home the Newbery for When You Reach Me, a time-traveling tale set in 1979 and inspired by past Newbery-winner Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time.
For younger readers, ALA's Randolph Caldecott Medal lauded The Lion & the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney. (Spoiler: It features a lion and a mouse.)
And for the middle-school-and-up crowd the Printz recognized Going Bovine by Libba Bray, a darkly comic story of a teenager experiencing fantastic hallucinations—or are they?—as he suffers from mad cow disease.
Fortunately, there's no age limit on reading these since that last one especially sounds like something not to be missed.
