The American Library Association announces Newbery, Printz, and other 2010 awards for children and young adult readers

Looking for a remarkable recent book for children or young adult readers? The American Library Association has some suggestions, announcing the winners of its annual John Newbery Medal, Michael L. Printz Award and other honors. And the winners are…

Rebecca Stead took home the Newbery for When You Reach Me, a time-traveling tale set in 1979 and inspired by past Newbery-winner Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time.

For younger readers, ALA's Randolph Caldecott Medal lauded The Lion & the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney. (Spoiler: It features a lion and a mouse.)

And for the middle-school-and-up crowd the Printz recognized Going Bovine by Libba Bray, a darkly comic story of a teenager experiencing fantastic hallucinations—or are they?—as he suffers from mad cow disease.

Fortunately, there's no age limit on reading these since that last one especially sounds like something not to be missed.
