The Amy Winehouse documentary trailer is as devastating as you might expect

If you want a good cry today, Altitude Film has you covered. The studio has released the first official teaser trailer for Amy, a documentary about the British pop singer Amy Winehouse, who died of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27 on July 23, 2007. The documentary—directed by BAFTA award-winner Asif Kapadia (Senna) and produced by James Gay-Rees (Exit Through The Gift Shop)—will feature unseen archive footage, previously unheard tracks recorded by Winehouse, and insights from the pop star herself.

“I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous. I don’t think I could handle it; I would probably go mad,” Winehouse says in voiceover over the trailer. Haunting words, given what we know about how her life started to unravel when she became one of the biggest British music stars. The two-hour documentary will hit British theaters on July 3; no U.S. release date has been set.
