The Armed’s new album is endlessly ferocious
Though the group opts to simply describe itself as a punk rock band, that moniker understates the sheer weight of The Armed’s creations. Hailing from Detroit, the vicious four-piece is gearing up to release its latest full-length, Untitled, on June 23 on No Rest Until Ruin. As chaotic as Untitled is—with its nods to early Daughters, and the darkened hardcore of Cursed—the fact it was recorded by Converge’s Kurt Ballou makes each decimating note shockingly resonant. With Nick Yacyschyn of Sumac and Baptists playing drums on the record, there are plenty of hardcore heavyweights lending their approval to the Detroit band, ensuring the album’s incisive look at the current start of art and pop-culture is as heavy as it is thoughtful. The A.V. Club is streaming all of the endlessly assaulting Untitled below, and pre-orders for the album are available now through No Rest Until Ruin. The rest of The Armed’s music is available for free on Bandcamp.
