The Avengers split forces, deploy clips, and dodge spoilers on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Late Night

With Avengers: Infinity War poised to, Thanos-like, slay fully half of the world’s box office starting Friday, the Marvel movie juggernaut (no, not that one, thankfully) dispatched two teams of heroes into the late-night fray on Monday. Makes sense, since all the trailers suggest the rapidly multiplying superhero team will be splintered between Wakanda, New York, outer space, and wherever it appears the team has sent Hawkeye to fetch the donuts. (Look for Hawkeye’s parallel standalone movie The Zeppo to come out, well, never.)

On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, team and franchise leader Robert Downey Jr./Tony Stark/Iron Man led a promotional squadron consisting of Paul Bettany (Vision), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis, hopefully doing more fighting than “soothing” in Infinity War). The faction held their own against Kimmel’s prying for spoilers, and doodled their characters for charity (Saldana’s Muppet-y Gamora is worth every penny at auction)—and then gave up what passes for an exclusive spoiler in the dead shark eyes of Marvel’s legal department. (Tony Stark has his own Ben & Jerry’s flavor! Everyone—to the blogs!)

Over on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Captain America was left on his own, with Chris Evans deftly dodging his own barrage of spoiler-targeted questions. Evans skillfully deflected Meyers’ geek-guy prodding with the deeply committed cop/porn ’stache that he’s sporting for his Broadway debut in Kenneth Lonergan’s Lobby Hero. (Which is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite its title.) And even though his own carefully vetted Infinity War clip wasn’t a flashy exclusive like the one that showboat Stark had in his Italian-tailored pocket, it did have Chadwick Boseman’s King T’Challa/Black Panther and Don Cheadle’s Rhodey goofing on Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, which was pretty adorable. Sure, Evans only gets one line in the clip, but that’s just the sort of team player Cap is.
