The Bates Motel season 4 teaser is short but bonkers

You may recall, gentle viewer, that season three of A&E’s deliciously bananas psychodrama Bates Motel ended with some full-on crazy. Norman’s finally embraced the murderous version of his mother that lives in his head, and that means the last vestiges of his old normal-teen self are getting stripped away. This teaser for season four—which begins March 7 at 9 p.m. ET—doesn’t have much beyond suggestive images and mood, but all signs point to an even more deliriously intense year of deeply awkward family dynamics. Everything looks to be spinning down the drain—followed by rivulets of blood, of course, because this show never met a metaphor on which it didn’t promptly dogpile. Norma is screaming, Norman is shouting, and it’s all set to the strains of “Where Did Our Love Go,” which is not exactly reassuring if you’re a member of the Bates family. Please, God, let Vera Farmiga’s gloriously funny matriarch live through the season.
