While Bates Motel, A&E’s prequel series to the Psycho films, has never shied away from queasy subject matter, it looks like the upcoming season is planning to really up the unsettling ante. The new trailer for season three features an explicit acknowledgement that things are getting hot and heavy in the Bates household, which is worrisome in all sorts of ways. Freddie Highmore’s Norman is really coming into his own as a young man—which, yikes—and Vera Farmiga’s Norma seems ready to take advantage of that fact. It even features Norma offering a piece of advice to her son that has become an indelible bit of Hollywood dialogue: “We all go a little mad sometimes.” We’re guessing Norma doesn’t realize how prescient her words really are. Bates Motel returns March 9 at 9 p.m. ET.
