As expected, the remaining two Beastie Boys say they won’t be making any more music together under that name. In the midst of testifying against Monster Energy Drink (whom the group says used its music without permission in a promotional video), Mike D said last week that the Beastie Boys “have not been able to tour since MCA, Adam Yauch, died,” and that the group “can’t make new music.” That doesn’t mean that D and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz won’t work together at some point in the future, but anything they release won’t be under the Beastie Boys moniker.
D also said that the group turned down a recent licensing request for use of the song “Sabotage” in the Arnold Schwarzenegger film of the same name. According to D, the group “weren’t fans of Mr. Schwarzenegger’s recent… work” and the use of the song would have “felt like too much of an endorsement.”
