The best thing since sliced bread: This baker paints pictures inside her loaves

Bread is good. Bread will always be good. And Japanese baker Ran is making bread even better by turning it into art—edible art, a.k.a. the best kind of art. Ran runs Konel_Bread, an Instagram account where she flaunts her bizarre bread-making talents. According to Ran, her beautiful bread was inspired by elaborate sushi rolls she saw being made on television. Every loaf has its own design, which appears on every slice. Designs include flowers and animals as well as Santas and snowmen for the holidays. She has also done some character loaves, featuring Hello Kitty, Snoopy, Woodstock, and Winnie The Pooh. Does it taste good? We have no idea. But it’s cute, and she has released a cookbook explaining her bread magic. Currently, it’s only available in Japanese.

Her work was recently featured on Instagram’s official account, where Ran said: “My little boy loves the breads, and he’ll usually have two slices for breakfast—maybe three on a really good day.” Ran’s son gets it. Bread is good.
