The Big Short co-writer to start a civil war for Amazon
A mere fortnight after being handed his first Oscar statuette, The Big Short co-screenwriter Charles Randolph has signed a deal with Amazon Studios to develop an hourlong television series, Variety reports. The as-yet-untitled drama will reportedly be a realistic examination of a type of events that could conceivably spark a civil war in the present-day United States. No other writers, directors or actors are currently attached to the project.
Although Randolph has not yet worked on a series, he has gone through the development process on a number of would-be shows, namely two for HBO and two for ABC. In 2010, his pilot episode of The Wonderful Maladys—what would have been a comedy-drama starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Molly Parker, and Adam Scott—was filmed for HBO by the network veteran director Alan Taylor, but the series was not picked up. Before co-writing The Big Short with Adam McKay (winning them Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay) he wrote or co-wrote several feature films, including The Life of David Gale and Love & Other Drugs.
