The Black-ish spin-off is now all Grown-ish up

Freeform announced today that it’s changing the name of Yara Shahidi’s Black-ish spin-off, from the original title, College-ish, to the new Grown-ish. (The theory apparently being that, while Black-ish is about being black, and Grown-ish is about being grown-up, College-ish implies that Shahidi might transform into an institute of higher learning herself.)

The show—which follows Shahidi’s Zoey Johnson to college, where she’s joined by fellow Black-ish alum Deon Cole—also added a few new cast members today. We already knew Chris Parnell would be signing on to play a member of the college administration, but Emily Arlook and American Crime’s Trevor Jackson have also been attached to star. (Arlook as a freshman know-it-all, and Jackson as a socially conscious sophomore.) The series—created and executive produced by Black-ish’s Kenya Barris—is expected to premiere on Freeform some time early next year.
