The Bold Type gets back to work

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Tuesday, June 12. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

The Bold Type (Freeform, 8 p.m.): The journalism-world series begins its second season without its core trio entirely intact: The opening scenes find Jane and Sutton waiting on Kat’s delayed return flight from South America, which is then followed by Kat and Sutton adjusting to life at Scarlet without newly minted Incite reporter Jane. As they navigate new assignments, evolving relationships, and some timely professional challenges facing their counterparts in the real-world press, the biggest obstacle just might be the one that crops up in an emergency fashion-closet video call: “CONNECTION LOST.” Allison Shoemaker is back on the Bold Type beat.

Regular coverage

Legion (season finale, FX, 10 p.m.)

Wild card

The Last Defense (ABC, 10 p.m.): If you’re not totally burned out on true-crime after The Staircase, Wild Wild Country, Wormwood, Evil Genius, The Keepers, Making A Murderer, and other investigative docs that weren’t produced by Netflix: Viola Davis presents this miniseries that re-opens the cases of death-row inmates who maintain their innocence.
