The broads are leaving the city, in four and three and two and one
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, April 20. All times are Eastern.
Top picks
Heartbeat (NBC, 8 p.m.): “On the anniversary of her sister’s death, Alex performs state-of-the-art heart surgery on a patient who doubts her ability to leave personal grief outside the OR.” What an asshole patient, right, Beaters? (Trying out a new name for all of us Heartbeat fans. Beaters is good, right?)
The Real Housewives Of New York City (Bravo, 9 p.m.): This episode of television is titled “The Biggest Boob.” That’s top pick territory no matter what the show, and don’t try to deny it.
Broad City (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.): And now for the real top pick, the third season finale of Broad City: “Jews On A Plane.” We’d make that expected Snakes On A Plane joke with this one, but, um… We’re not stupid. All we can say is we hope Julianna Margulies is in this episode of television, even though we won’t hold our breath on that one. Sorry, Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya.
Premieres and finales
Deadbeat (Hulu, midnight): Deadbeat returns with not just its third season premiere: It returns with its complete third season. Because, of all the shows on Hulu, the one everyone really wants to binge-watch is Deadbeat, the Tyler Labine-led supernatural comedy. This isn’t even a slam on Deadbeat—we just want to binge-watch more shows, Hulu. Peak TV!
Kocktails With Khloe (FY1, 10 p.m.): Kocktails With Khloe is dead. Long live Kocktails With Chloe.
Skin Wars (GSN, 10 p.m.): You liking this third season trend we got going on here? Then you’ll love that Skin Wars is also returning with its third season premiere tonight. Body paint! Models! Wars over body paint and models! We’re totally not phoning this one in! But you’re not paying attention to this anyway, now are you?!
Time Traveling Bong (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.): Now that Broad City is over, we can get right to brass tacks: You like time traveling bongs? No, we’re not a narc. Anyway, tonight begins the three-part mini-series, the aforementioned Time Travel Bong. It all comes from Broad City’s own Ilana Glazer, Paul W. Downs, and Lucia Aniello, so it’s basically like Broad City didn’t just end before it. What do you got for us, guys?
“Glazer and Downs play Sharee and Jeff, two mediocre, suburban cousins who live together in a condo left to them by their grandmother in New Jersey. Their mundane lives take a twisted turn when they find a bong that also serves as a time machine, which transports them to Salem, Massachusetts in the height of the witch trial era, the racially segregated South in the 1960s, ancient Greece and even the dystopian future, among other times and places. Their buzz is killed when the bong breaks and they are forced to bounce around the space time continuum, learning to appreciate that there’s no time like the present.”
We’re really not high enough for any of this. Yet! But for those of you that are, here’s Dennis Perkins’ pre-air review of the mini-series. You buncha stoners.
