The Bronx Bull is definitely not a Raging Bull sequel, especially in this trailer

A new trailer has been released for the clearly unauthorized Raging Bull non-sequel The Bronx Bull. In fact, MGM probably prefers that Raging Bull and The Bronx Bull are never said in the same sentence. (LaMotta, who is now 90 years old, sold his life’s rights to MGM in 1976, and they ultimately have the last say in all things Raging Bull.) Originally titled Raging Bull II , the studio dropped its lawsuit against the film once LaMotta agreed to change the title and sever all ties to Martin Scorsese’s 1980 film. Thus, The Bronx Bull, which is another of LaMotta’s charming nicknames, was born. And it is totally not an official follow-up, y’all. Seriously. It’s unauthorized as heck.

The Bronx Bull follows LaMotta’s troubled youth in the Bronx, his rise to fame, and his life outside the ring. Boardwalk Empire’s William Forsythe stars as LaMotta, and Mojean Aria will play a younger version of the legendary boxer. Ray Wise, Paul Sorvino, Tom Sizemore, Penelope Ann Miller, Joe Mantegna, Natasha Henstridge, and Harry Hamlin also star. The trailer brims with rage—sorry, anger—as a young LaMotta punches his way through the Bronx in 1937. “All his life, he’s had to fight,” the trailer reminds us. As another reminder: This is not a Raging Bull sequel, just another boxing movie. And if you say otherwise, MGM will meet you in the ring.
