Loosely based on writer-director Nijla Mu’min’s upbringing in Oakland, the new film Jinn follows Summer, a carefree 17-year-old black girl (Zoe Renee), whose world changes when her mother (Luke Cage’s Simone Missick) suddenly converts to Islam. At the SXSW premiere of the film, we asked Mu’min and the Jinn cast to give us their five favorite films that center on mother-daughter relationships.
