In a long overdue surprise, earlier this month BBC announced Jodie Whittaker to be the new star of Doctor Who, marking the first time a woman has played the role of the time-traveling immortal. Though her casting was largely welcomed, she was inevitably met with derisive, sexist remarks. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, The A.V. Club caught up with the current cast and writers of Doctor Who, including showrunner Steven Moffat and the current Doctor Peter Capaldi. In the video above, they express their support for Whittaker and how they want the haters to get over their hang-ups with gender.
